Dems Co-opt GOP’s Sponsored Twitter Hashtags with Political Twijitsu

Republicans have pioneered the use of sponsored Twitter “trending topics” this convention season, but Obama supporters are doing their best to co-opt the GOP hashtags in a sort of political Twijitsu.

Over the past several days, Republican-leaning groups have paid Twitter to promote several politically loaded hashtags to the top of the “trending topics” list — like #AreYouBetterOff, #FailedAgenda, #FailingAgenda, and #NotDoingFine — at a cost of $125,000 a pop.  Those groups are also paying to promote individual tweets (for $15,000 each) to the top of search results that hew to their agenda (note: the “promoted” flag is not reproduced in the embedded tweet):

But some crafty Obama supporters are turning the hashtags against the GOP:
