In response to the universal wailing and gnashing of teeth over Apple’s not-ready-for-prime-time replacement for the Google Maps app, a hacker has ported the old app into iOS 6.
Ryan Petrich has worked out how to run the iOS 5.1 version of the beloved mapping app on the iPhone 5’s new operating system:

Petrich hasn’t released details yet (other than the unsurprising fact that the iPhone must be jailbroken) and told The Next Web that he has to overcome a few more technical issues before making the technique public. Apple is scrambling to bring its in-house mapping app up to speed, but chances are that Petrich will perfect his hack before Apple finishes its fix.
